Violinist Ji won Kim graduated from Busan Arts High School and
studied at Yonsei University College of Music before moving to Germany, where
she completed the professional performance course (KA) at the Leipzig
University of Music. She then earned a master's degree (MM) from the Münster
University of Music and was selected as a contemporary music research scholar
at the Academy (IEMA) hosted by Ensemble Modern, a world-renowned contemporary
music group in Frankfurt. She was awarded a scholarship from the Kunststiftung
NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia Art Foundation) and completed her academy life,
earning a master's degree (MM, Zeitgenoessische Musik) in contemporary music
linked to the Frankfurt University of Music and Ensemble Modern. During her
studies in Germany, she was a member of the Kammerphilharmonie Leipzig while
studying at Leipzig University of Music and was selected for an excellent
performance in the WDR3 (West German Broadcasting, Westdeutscher Rundfunk
Koeln) Open Audition while studying at Münster University of Music,
representing the university and recording a performance broadcast. As a
scholarship member of the Ensemble Modern Academy (Internationale Ensemble
Modern Academie, IEMA), she collaborated with contemporary composers such as
Luca Francesconi and Thomas Ades, performing at IRCAM, Centquatre, and the
Royaumont, introducing and performing a wide range of contemporary music, from
early 20th-century contemporary pieces to electronic music, in various parts of
Europe including the Berlin Konzerthaus. She has performed at the Tongyeong
International Music Festival, the Ensemble's own concert series, the
"Horizonte" series in Basel, Switzerland, which introduces young
Asian composers, the Uijeongbu Music Theatre Festival, and the Seoul
International Computer Music Festival, continuing to perform diverse
contemporary music across genres. Currently, she is a member of the Ensemble
TIMF and teaches at Sookmyung Women's University and the Dong-Eui University
Gifted Education Center.
