Hornist Hyung Ju Kim was admitted to Seoul Arts High School as the
top student and during his studies, he was also admitted early to the Korea
National University of Arts School of Music as a gifted student where he
graduated. He then went to Germany and studied under Marie Luise Neunecker at
Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, becoming the first Korean to do so
and graduated with top honors in the master's program.
Early on, he demonstrated his musical talent by winning
first place at the Korean Music Association Competition and the Woo Hyun
Competition. He also won first place at the Seoul National University Wind
Competition, Yonsei University Wind Competition, Overseas Dispatch Competition,
Busan Music Competition, and the Dong-A Music Competition (being the youngest
winner). He achieved third place at the Jeju International Wind Competition
(2013 and 2017) and reached the finals of the German ARD Competition,
showcasing his musical prowess in numerous domestic and international
competitions. Beginning with a solo recital as a Kumho Young Artist, he has
performed as a soloist with various orchestras including the Incheon Philharmonic
Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, Suwon
Philharmonic Orchestra, KNUA Wind Orchestra, and KNUA Symphony Orchestra. He
also collaborated with Das Sinfonie Orchester Berlin (at Berliner Philharmonie
Chamber Hall), performed a solo recital at Ein Musikalisches Fest
(Kronungskutschen Hall), and participated in the Berliner Philharmoniker's
"The Horn-Marathon" and their Christmas Concert "Ho, Ho,
Horn," engaging with audiences both domestically and internationally
through numerous solo and chamber music performances.
Additionally, he has been active in orchestral performances
as a guest principal and tour performer with the Kölner Kammer Orchester, and
has held positions with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony
Orchestra (formerly the Korean Symphony Orchestra), Seongnam Philharmonic
Orchestra, and Ensemble TIMF. Hornist Hyung Ju Kim, who
studied under Seok-jun Lee, Dong-gon Lee, Dae-woong Seok, Marie Luise
Neunecker, and Georg Schreckenberger, is currently the associate principal of
the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, principal member of the Korean Chamber
Orchestra (formerly the Baroque Ensemble), a member of Ensemble TIMF, EOS
Ensemble, and a horn researcher at the Korea Wind Instrument Promotion Agency.
He is also dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians as a faculty
member at Sangmyung University and Hansei University.
